Image of the Day - Melbourne Museum, 2000

Melbourne Museum - Immersion Cinema Experience, 2000Melbourne Museum - Immersion Cinema Experience, 2000I think I will try to publish an image each day of prior work that is notable for some reason. This at least makes be reflect on the many projects I’ve perhaps even forgotten about.

These photos come from the installation of the Immersion Interactive Cinema at the Melbourne Museum in 2000. This Cinema had 170 seats and 85 interactive consoles. The second image shows the Cinema during testing running the Vital Space show on the 3-screen, 135deg panoramic display system.

Why does it matter? This was the furthest Cinema from home-base in Toronto, and the largest one at the time too. Setting up the support procedures to enable this type of installation to run reliably 1/2 way around the world was an extra-fun challenge. This project truly took Immersion Studios international (beyond the easy North American borders).
